Background

This half-day workshop will focus on technologies and energy efficiency practices that work to lower energy costs and reduce fossil fuel consumption.  Presenters will discuss a range of topics, including geothermal energy, energy efficiency case studies, and local programs.  This workshop is designed for both the public and private sector, including public officials, facility managers, property managers, and those interested in energy efficiency and geothermal energy.

 

Parking

Parking is available in the lot next to Nitschke Hall.  It is free onsite - the lot will not be ticketed in the morning.

 

Continuing Education

Certificates will be available for all registrants (2.25 hours).

PRESENTER BIOS

 

Kevin Moyer, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority
Kevin’s diverse general management career has spanned over 20 years in Fortune 500 senior executive roles in Specialty Financial Services, High Technology and Automotive Markets. His roles have included business development, project financing, capital markets, M&A, strategic partnerships and global manufacturing, operations and services. As executive director of Energy Programs at the Toledo-Lucas Co. Port Authority, Kevin leads the program management and implementation of alternative energy and energy efficiency financing and development programs supported by a $15 million DOE grant.  Program goals are to complete in excess of $100 million of projects that generate $20 million per year in energy savings, alternative energy power generations and create sustainable energy transformation.  Financing mechanisms include project financing, tax equity, public private partnerships, revolving loan funds, bond debt and energy special improvement districts.  Projects include financings for solar, wind, biomass and energy efficiency as well as brownfield and economic development and distributed, district utility and municipal power generation.   Kevin is a graduate of the University of Findlay in Management and has an Executive MBA from Bowling Green State University.

Steve DiBerardine, PE, CGD, LEED AP, Strategic Energy Solutions

Steve DiBerardine is President and founder of the Strategic Energy Solutions, Inc.  He is a mechanical engineer with 20 years of experience in the design and specification of commercial HVAC systems.  In recent years Steve’s focus has been on the development of the company’s geothermal practice.  He has overseen the design of twenty-five commercial geothermal projects.  Steve is a registered professional engineer, certified geoexchange designer, and LEED™ accredited professional.  The Certified GeoExchange Designer program is designed to recognize professionals who have demonstrated high levels of experience, competence, proficiency, and ethical fitness in applying the principles and practices of geothermal heat pump design and related disciplines, as well as to raise the professional standards within the field, and to encourage those involved in the design process through a continuing education program of professional development. The CGD certification is granted by the Association of Energy Engineers and sponsored by the Geothermal Heat Pump Consortium. Associated training programs are presented by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association.  The corporate offices of Strategic Energy Solutions are located in Berkley, MI.  The recently completed office renovation achieved LEED Gold certification through the United States Green Building Council.  One sustainable feature of the offices is a geothermal heating and cooling system that is also used for education and demonstration purposes.

Brian Hammer, CPA, Plante and Moran

Brian Hammer is one of the development members of the Renewable Energy practice for Plante & Moran, PLLC and works out of the Traverse City, MI office. Brian focuses on manufacturers and developers working in the renewable energy market, providing clients with assistance from project formation, regulations and ongoing operational issues. Brian has extensive experience in renewable energy credits and working with public private partnerships. Brian has experience working on both the Chicago Board of Options Exchange and Chicago Mercantile Exchange trading various commodities.  Brian holds a B.A. from Hope College.
